Thank you from the team at Babons Cancer Support
Babons Cancer Support is a charity that exists to come alongside the cancer community of Tonbridge, whether you are the patient, carer, family member, colleague or friend.
BABONS Cancer Support has been created in memory of
Jean Spickernell (called “Babon” by her grandchildren)
who lost her life to cancer in 2022.
Jean was a “pocket rocket” who loved her community
and always looked for ways to help others even when
she needed help herself.
How WE can help
Our counselling service is delivered by qualified counsellors, or student counsellors in at least their 2nd year of training. We offer a confidential, safe space to talk through the things you’re struggling with. Our counsellors will help you explore your feelings and process what you’re going through or have been through. If you think you would like to see whether counselling is for you, please visit our contact us page to register your interest. From there, we will invite you to an initial assessment session, to ensure you receive the best support for you personally. We offer people impacted by cancer 12 counselling sessions free of charge.
Perhaps you’d find it helpful to meet others
in a similar situation to you? If so, please

Here at Babons, we recognise that cancer can have a massive impact on so many areas of life. Talking to those closest to you can help, but sometimes having a neutral person outside of the situation can be of great benefit. Many people find that talking to someone helps them deal with the difficult things they’re facing and learn new ways of coping. Emotional Support at Babons takes on various forms. Contact us to find out more about the ways we can help.
Babons Cancer Support understands that when someone is diagnosed with cancer, new things enter your world, and you may have questions about things that you’ve never had to think about before. Whilst talking about those things can help process difficult emotions, our Signposting Service aims to address some of the practical needs that arise. Please contact us or give us a ring to ask us about how you can access support with: - Blue badge Applications - P.I.P Applications - Debt & Benefits Advice - Access to Equipment in the home
As well as our Counselling, Support Groups and Signposting we have been working to bring other services into our centre. We have 2 wig professionals offering wig consultation sessions each month for those experiencing hair loss as a result of cancer treatment. On the 3rd Friday of every month "The Fitting Service" is on site, offering bra fitting and advice for those who have been given a diagnosis of Breast Cancer. Starting on Tuesday 23rd July, our qualified Nail Technician, Freya, will be available with oncology approved products to pamper you and your nails. Just call us to book your appointment for a donation of £10 on 01732 711634. We can now offer support with PIP applications as we have two members of the team trained to support with this, just call or email us to book this in with us. Finally, we are really excited to announce the launch of Look Good Feel Better workshops at our centre, starting on Monday 9th September, 10am - 12 noon. Look Good Feel Better are a national campaign who run monthly confidence boosting workshops for men, women and young people with cancer. Booking in advance is essential, you can call us on 01732 711634 and we can do this for you or click the link in our News/Events section to do this direct. You can learn more about all these services with our downloadable and updated leaflet in the Forms & Resources section of our website.
